Terrasses De Lavaux: St Saphorin

St Saphorin, in the canton of Vaud, is located at the heart of one of Switzerland’s most famous wine-producing regions: Terrasses de Lavaux.


This hillside vineyard region was first cultivated by Cistercian monks in 1147 and over the centuries laid claim to some of Europe’s finest wines.


Today, St Saphorin and TERRASSES DE LAVAUX are popular tourist destinations that offer visitors stunning views of Lake Geneva and allow them to sample some of the country's finest wines.

BY CAR

there are two main routes that lead to St Saphorin and Terrasses de Lavaux.

The first route is via the N20 – a scenic country road that runs from Lausanne to Montreux.

The second route, also known as ‘the panoramic drive’, follows the N3 highway along the eastern shore of Lake Geneva.

Explore TERRASSES DE LAVAUX and hike from St. Saphorin train station on Lac Léman / Lake Geneva to the village of Lutry. Here, explore and take a closer look at the medieval village with its narrow winding streets and the characteristic winegrowers' houses from the 16th to 19th centuries.


The original church tower still adorns numerous wine labels today. The Auberge de l'Onde offers a place to stop, reflecting a centuries-old tradition of hospitality.


The signposted hiking trail leads from here in constant ups and downs through the famous, beautiful vineyards of Lavaux and the picturesque wine villages. The vineyard dates back as early as the 12th century.


The Lavaux wine terraces extend over 800 hectares and are Switzerland's largest contiguous wine-growing region. Significantly, the Terrasses de Lavaux has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2007. Excellent wines are produced here and get a good reputation.


You will pass through the small villages of Rivas, Epesses, Dezaley, Riex, Aran, Le Châtelard , and Lutry on the SwissRiviera. You will enjoy the most stunning views during your hike!

The LAVAUX VINEYARD TERRACES that extend into Lake Geneva create a beautiful blend of the greens from the vineyards and blue lake and skies. Everywhere you turn to is picture-perfect!

TIP: Remember to stop in Epesses and try their wine at the Auberge du Vigneron. Continue your scenic walk to the village of Riex and stop at The Café de Riex for some food and local wine. You will love it! End your hike at the medieval town of Lutry, where trains or boat connections await you.
