WHERE IS WALENSEE & QUINTEN
The Walensee, also known as Walenstadt, is a lake in the eastern Prealps in Switzerland. The lake is in the Canton of St. Gallen and Glarus. We took the boat from Murg West to Quinten on a beautiful day and arrived at the small village of Quinten after 22 minutes.
The Village of Quinten is a no-car village situated on the southern side of Walensee. Quinten is considered the Riviera of Eastern Switzerland due to its southern location and the fact that almost-vertical mountains protect it. Because of the Mediterranean climate, grapes, kiwi, and figs grow here.
We hiked around the village and had lunch at the Wirtshaus zur Schifflände, Quinten. The restaurants offer stunning views of the surrounding mountain peaks and Mediterranean-like lakes. You feel as though you're in the South of Europe! If you want to stay overnight, they have seven boutique hotels/accommodations to choose from - Tremondi - Boutique BNB & Restaurant is at the top of the list and has good reviews. The Chapel of St. Barnhard is just below the hotel and shops nearby, so you don't have to walk far.
We had a great time exploring the village with Bella especially playing and swimming with her in the lake.

TRAIN:
Zurich to Walenstadt. 1H 10 min

It costs SF 13.40 per person return. (2021)
The ticket fare for dogs is SF 6.70 each.
Duration: 22 Minutes
Note: You can buy the ticket on the boat, or you can buy it online.
FOOT:
Quinten can be reached on foot from Walenstadt or Weesen with a hiking time of around three hours each.
NOTE: Quinten can only be reached by boat or by foot

3. VISIT THE CHAPEL OF ST BERNARD
St. Bernhard Chapel, built in 1765, replaced a chapel that stood at a different location in Quinten. In 1986, the chapel, which has baroque furnishings, was restored with the monument preservation of the canton of St. Gallen
4. GO AND SEE MESMERHÜSLI, ONE OF THE OLDEST HOUSES IN QUINTEN
The "Mesmerhüsli" is one of the oldest houses in Quinten. In 2016 it was restored as a listed building and can be visited. You can inquire about this in the "Wirtschaft zur Schifflände"; for more information, go to mesmerhuesli.ch.
5. VISIT THE SILKWORM REARING IN THE VILLAGE
The "Quinten Leben" foundation operates a silkworm farm in Quinten. The silkworms eat mulberry tree leaves that the foundation of Quinten planted.

6. THE SMALL SHIPPING MUSEUM
There is a small Walensee shipping museum in the Mesmerhüsli in the village of Quinten. The small museum shows the past and present of Walensee shipping.
